Michigan HIV/AIDS Council (MHAC)
2011-2012 Membership Openings

Download an application now! You may also download some Application Information to guide you in filling out the application.

The Michigan HIV/AIDS Council (MHAC) is in the process of accepting membership applications for 2012. The mission of the Michigan HIV/AIDS Council is to represent the diversity of those affected by HIV/AIDS in Michigan, maintain parity among prevention and care issues, and to develop and sustain a statewide comprehensive plan(s) for HIV/AIDS prevention and care. The Council meets four times a year in the Lansing area, and mileage reimbursement is available for those who request it, with priority given to people living with HIV/AIDS. Members will be expected to attend these meetings and participate on committees and workgroups.

If you have had experience in community planning in your area, or have been involved in HIV/AIDS prevention or care activities, there are several openings available in the following categories:

Two (2) openings are available under the Persons Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWH/A) category. This category is open to those who are HIV+.

Eight (8) openings are available under the Community Members category.

This category is defined as seats allocated to individuals who represent the current profile of the epidemic in Michigan according to race, ethnicity, risk behavior, gender, age, geography and with a goal of achieving inclusion and representation of affected/infected communities as defined in federal guidance.

Three (3) openings are available under the AIDS Service Organizations, Non-Governmental Organizations, Community Based Organizations/Providers (ASO/NGO/CBO) category. This category is defined as seats allocated for ASO/NGO/CBOs/Providers, based on the constituency represented by such organizations. Seats are allocated to individuals on behalf of the represented constituency and not for a specific agency or organizational entity.

One (1) opening is available under the Local Public Health – Rural category. This category is defined as seats allocated to individuals on behalf of local public health and not to specific local public health agencies. Areas are considered urban when the population range is between 2,500 – 100,000 (urban non-metropolitan) or greater than 100,000 (urban, metropolitan area).

If you have any questions or need an application sent to you, please feel free to contact Belinda Chandler at (517) 241-5926 or via email at chandlerbel@michigan.gov.

The deadline for submitting the application is October 23rd, 2009 by 5:00 PM. LATE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED!
